Birdwatching at Bislicher Insel in autumn

Between 2019 and 2024, my wife and I visited the Bislicher Insel nature reserve about fifteen times for birdwatching. Each visit offered a different mix of species, depending on the season and weather conditions.

In the following sections, I would like to introduce some of the birds we observed throughout the year. Let’s continue with autumn.

Autumn

Perched above the meadows, a rook and a light-colored common buzzard keep watch.

Far on the horizon, a white-tailed eagle sits majestically, surveying the landscape.

A common kestrel hovers above, scanning the scene below with sharp, attentive eyes.

Across the meadow, great white egrets assemble, their presence marking one of the season’s striking sights.

Waders dart back and forth along the water’s edge, probing the mud for food. Among these waders are the bar-tailed godwit, northern lapwing, dunlin, and spotted redshank, each moving actively along the water’s edge.

At the bank’s edge, a Eurasian kingfisher keeps watch over the water, while a Eurasian jay observes quietly from the neighboring tree.

In the distance, ruddy shelducks stand at the water’s edge, while Egyptian geese enjoy the autumn sun in the shallow water.

In the next post, we will turn to the birds and wildlife of winter.
